Brian's interests

  • Fishing
    Fly Fishing. Fly Tying.
I have been Fly fishing since I was about 14. I tie all my own flies. I have been tutoring in a formal situation for a few years.
I mainly fish the local rivers and dams. I like to go to Eucumbene as often as possible.
I have been Saltwater fly fishing since about 1974. I spent several years fishing for saltwater species at Apollo Bay.
At the end of Nov '02 I went to Eucumbene and had a good time. The wind was up very strong for both days. I kept two good fish and lost 3 good fish. I released about 6 smaller fish. They all took nymphs. Bill Fillips landed one fish and lost a couple. He used a variety of flies but nymphs did the best.

    Surf Fishing. Surf Casting.
I still fish the surf along the 90 mile beach. I was a tournament caster for several years and held club, and Victorian records.

    Luderick Fishing.
I spend a lot of time fishing off the rocks at Lakes Entrance. I also travel to Eden and Narooma in NSW.

    I
am happy to make up a fishing expedition to almost anywhere, call me.
  • Harness Racing.
I am an A grade trainer.
I will train a horse for you. The rates are the cheapest in the land. Free. You pay the costs for the upkeep of the horse. If it wins, we share the prize money equally. That way if the horse is no good, I don't want to waste my time, nor, your money. If it is good, we share in the spoils.
I do not believe in taking training money for a horse that cannot make it.
*The picture below  here (at left) is of us receiving  a trophy after a horse (Saunders Kojak) won the main race for the day at Traralgon. The picture shows Chris Lambrecht who owned the horse at the time and also drove it, at left with the winners bottle of champagne, myself, my wife Pat, the wife of the president and Stan Bonighton the President  presenting us with the trophy. The racing colours are mine. Grey with a black stripe.
*The picture to the right is that of myself with Saunders Kojak with a rug he won.

  • Motorcycling.
I ride a BMW 1984 R65LS. It is a sporty type of beemer.
I have been riding since I was 14. I mainly ride around the Gippsland roads.
I am a member of the Netrider.com.au group. Good bunch of people.
I have been active in the bike tax protests and have been on most of the rides.

  • Christmas Toy Run 2002 (Latrobe Valley)
I went on 2 Toy Runs this past Christmas. The first was in the Latrobe Valley on Saturday 7 December 2002. The run went from Traralgon Council offices, through Commercial Road in Morwell, and then to the Moe racecourse where the presents were handed to the Salvation Army for distribution to the needy.
I had a teddy made by the ladies of the craft classes at Morwell Neighbourhood House. Thanks Ladies.

  • Christmas Toy Run 2002 (Melbourne)
On Sunday 8 December 2002, I teamed up with my daughter Trish (CBX250 Honda) and joined the bikes assembled at the Cranbourne supermarket car park. There were about 1500 bikes there.
We were escorted by the Police (Good Job) to St Kilda road in Melbourne. The service road that runs along the Shrine and Botanical gardens was 6 deep in bikes for about 2 and a half klicks. There were about 10500 bikes. We all rode over the West Gate Bridge (what a great sight) and down to Williamstown ( my old stamping grounds) where we handed our gifts to the Smith Family for distribution.

Trish and I then rode home. We had a great day. We hope to do it all again next year.
Trish and Brian heading off on the toy run Bikes stopped in The Strand at Williamstown Trish and Brian arriving in Williamstown

Big thanks to MRAA for the run and assistance and the Police. Good Job.
Brickbats to Williamstown Council. The bikes made the show. Why were there heaps of cars parked in the main street taking up room and the bikes sent to the end of town to park? The bikes made the show. Next time get rid of the cars. It is only for a few hours. So surely you can be like the fish and chip shop owner who I heard say "Hooray for the bikes, bring them on any time".
  • Confusion Rally.
I went along to the rally at Licola. It is a great ride. It is about 100 km from Traralgon. The ride from Seaton on is a ripper. Lots of bends and some short straight sections. The Beemer scrapped on a few corners. (Due only to the construction of the machine, not the riding!)
I arrived at the rally site. Great setting. Loved the entrance, either through the creek or over the so-called bridge, then along the rocks that were the track in.
Friendly people. It was run by the Eastern Districts M/Cycle club. They had music, food, drinks, and a river to swim in.
It was a very hot day (44o C) so I arrived there about dusk. There seemed to be a few hundred there. One crowd even had a pool table in their large tent.

Bandstand and some happy campers   Food and beer tent  View of some of the campers.

I will try to get there again next year.
  • Package People.

Brian meets a group of friends who worked for the then SEC and either took the package, or were told to take the package and left, for lunch once a month. From time to time some people who still work for the firm also attend to tell of current affairs.
  • Below is a picture of some of the group.
